An Energy Source’s True Value

An energy source’s true value to humanity is directly proportional to
energy density and inversely proportional to the number of species it kills in the process.

It doesn’t matter if Coal pollutes less than Oil etc…. Because invariably they’re still causing an abnormally high rate of species extinction.

This is something difficult to understand because it requires one to understand 4 very distinct things.

1) Chemistry- (the lack of people in the world who understand chemistry is depressing).

2) Biology — the more species that go extinct, the higher the probability of a deadly pandemic. There’s evidence to suggest we’re now losing species at 1,000 to 10,000 times the background rate. Every 100 years, there’s 3 pandemics, and one of the the only long term battle fodder against pandemics is biodiversity.

3) Physics — material and energy analysis.

4) Human Behavior at a Micro/macro scale –
